Ethno Australia

Ethno is a unique project involving traditional/folk musicians. Each gathering draws participants from around the globe. Folk musicians meet to teach each other, by ear, traditional folk songs from their cultures.

2011 will be the first time Ethno comes to Australia.

In mid-December a group of 40 musicians, representing over 20 different countries and cultural groups, will be locked in a series of workshops where many music styles will be forged together to create a masterful world music extravaganza.

Ethno Australia is a research project administered by the Centre for Tourism, Leisure and Work, Southern Cross University, in partnership with the School of Arts and Social Sciences.

The Ethno Australia process will be documented and used to specifically research the turbo charging strategies employed in creating innovative musical processes. This medium provides valuable research in understanding dynamics involved in temporal, cultural clusters.
